Scope and Contents
This collection consists of recordings of worship services and interviews that document Old Regular and Primitive Baptist singing and preaching traditions in Kentucky's Floyd, Knott, Letcher, and Perry counties.The recordings were made primarily in the 1970s and 1980s by Berea College faculty members Loyal Jones and John Wallhauser, other researchers, and church members.
There are 13 reel-to-reel and 23 audio tape cassette recordings along with written recording contents logs....

Abstract
Asher Sizemore (1906-1975) initially worked as a bookkeeper for a mining company in Pike County, Kentucky, but aspired to be a singer. In 1931, singing old-time and cowboy songs, he appeared on radio in Huntington, West Virginia, before moving to WCKY Cincinnati and then WHAS Louisville, where he was first joined on air by his five-year-old son Jimmie (1928- ). In 1933, the duo were hired by the WSM Grand Ole Opry, where they remained a popular act for about 10 years.

G.R. Combs Ballad Collection, 1907-1930

Abstract
Gilbert R. Combs (1886-1966) compiled his collection of songs and ballads in part from those he heard growing up in Eastern Kentucky, and also from his acquaintance with gospel music and spirituals from several southern states. The collection includes some biographical notes covering Combs' early life, and his own recollections of his early childhood and description of traditional songs in mountain settings.

Tallmadge earned degrees in Music at Oberlin College (Ohio), in 1940 (B.M.) and 1946 (M.M.).
